If you've currently got your period then you would have blood coloured discharge anyway. Breakthrough bleeding is quite common, so it may have been that.
However, if you're are still having the same problem after the time your period should have stopped and you're still concerned then get it checked out as breakthrough bleeding can sometimes indicate an infection.
