What is Deteclo for?Deteclo is an antibiotic. It will kill off a great many germs which cause infections. How much should I take?One tablet is usually taken twice a day (12 hours apart). How should I take them?They should be taken with plenty of water on an empty stomach - one hour before or 2 hours after food. They do not work as well when taken with milk or antacids (white medicines or tablets for stomach ulcers) You should not take them if there is any risk of being pregnant. What if I forget a dose?Take it as soon as you remember. If you forget until it is time for the next dose, miss out the one you forgot. Do not double up. How long should I take the tablets for?Usually for one week. You should finish the full course otherwise the infection may come back Are there any side effects?Most medicines can cause side effects. Deteclo makes the skin more sensitive to sunlight. It is really important to avoid strong sunlight, sunbeds and heat lamps. Use a high factor sun block on exposed skin in the summer. Deteclo may make you feel sick or even be sick. If you get severe diarrhoea go back to the doctor. Can I take other medicines?There should be no problem with most other medicines except antacids. Leave about 2 hours before and after you have Deteclo. It may affect the working of the combined oral contraceptive pill though of course you are strongly advised not to have sex until the infection has cleared. You should tell the doctor if you are taking any medication. Can I drink alcohol?Yes it is safe to drink small amounts with Deteclo. Your doctor however may tell you not to drink alcohol because of your condition because it could interfere with the healing process. |
